Bourbon Tasting Notes
Jefferson's Reserve
Like the accomplished third President of the US, this bourbon is complex, elegant and sophisticated. Jefferson's Reserve is allowed to age slowly and reach maturity naturally. The whisky has a medium-weight, velvety textured body and a dry, robust palate, one that quickly fills the mouth with the engaging flavors of roasted corn, caramel, toffee and oak.
Nose: Peaches, vanilla, raisins, butterscotch
Taste: An elegant combination of flavors, a very thick body, almost syrupy sweetness, suggesting vanilla and caramel, yet very fruity with hints of dates, blackberry and orange.
Finish: The finish is long, warm and smooth like a fine cognac.
Jefferson's
This very small batch, handcrafted bourbon has been aged in the heart of metal clad warehouses to accentuate the extreme temperatures that Kentucky is blessed with, forcing the bourbon to expand deep into the barrel and pull out the prevalent flavors of the wood. These flavors of vanilla, caramel and assorted fruits assure an incredibly smooth taste and finish. There is no easier bourbon whisky than this polished Kentucky gold.
Nose: Fresh and smooth with velvety peach and vanilla.
Taste: Very soft start, smooth and sweet with hints of berry and citrus.
Finish: Delicate and warm with a return of vanilla, cream and toast.
Sam Houston
Similar to the colorful Sam Houston, first president of the Republic of Texas, this bourbon is full of character. The high percentage of rye in the mash bill gives this bourbon its spicy character. Combined with a deep char, this expressive whisky is robust yet elegant.
Nose: Nosing reveals delicate scents of red fruit, rye bread and oak resin.
Taste: The palate blossoms with rich, tangy flavors including nutmeg, wood resin, corn mash, rye bread and dry cereal.
Finish: The finish is long, sweet and opulently textured.
